FruitMenu Redux Version History
Version 1.2.1 (October 16th, 2026)
- Added compatibility with a bundle containing WindowShade Redux in the registration system.
Version 1.2 (October 6th, 2026)
- Moved various options to new Advanced and Updates tabs.
- Recent Items now shows Applications, Documents, and Folders in their own sections just like the real Apple menu.
- Items in Recent… items menus are now sorted alphabetically.
- Addressed an issue in which the six-color overlay would incorrectly stay up when Exposé/Mission Control was invoked.
- Added Show All, Hide Others, and Hide Frontmost Application to the items you can add to the menu.
- Added Bring All Windows to Front and Arrange Windows in Front, which choose those commands in the frontmost application’s Window menu. Hold Option on Bring All Windows to Front to arrange the windows instead. Requires Accessibility.
- Holding Option while choosing an application in Running Applications now hides the current application, just like the Mac OS 9 Application menu and the Dock.
- Added Clear Menu to Recent Items, Recent Applications, Recent Documents, and Recent Folders just like the real Apple menu. It only clears FruitMenu Redux’s lists, not the Finder’s or the Dock’s.
- Holding Option in Mounted Volumes now offers to eject each disk (if can be ejected).
- Choosing an address in IP Address now correctly copies it to the clipboard.
- Added Mission Control, App Exposé, and Show Desktop.
- Added Start Screen Saver and Put Display to Sleep.
- Added a keyboard shortcut that opens the FruitMenu Redux menu, set in the General tab. It opens from the Apple menu, from the menu bar icon, or at the pointer, depending on your settings.
- Addressed an issue in which Option-clicking the Apple menu opened the FruitMenu Redux menu a few points too low.
- Smart Folders in the menu or in the FruitMenu Redux Items folder now show their search results in a submenu.
- The Software Update… item now properly shows how many recommended updates are available in its badge.
- Choosing a folder in the menu, such as a disk in Mounted Volumes, now correctly opens it in the Finder.
- Added Shortcuts actions that open the FruitMenu Redux menu, run an item in it, and add files and folders to the FruitMenu Redux Items folder. You can also run them from Spotlight, or maybe ask Siri to “Open the FruitMenu Redux menu.”
Version 1.1 (September 29th, 2026)
- New: Added “Attempt to suppress real Apple menu” option. This makes dragging from the application menu of the frontmost app to the Apple menu show the FruitMenu Redux menu. Off by default because it requires Accessibility.
- Redid the Shortcut (Hotkey) setting UX. Polished thoroughly.
- Shortcuts now override system shortcuts if possible (the UI will tell you if it’s not possible now too)
- Addressed “Remove” incorrectly being enabled when no menu item was selected.
- Manually adding “Customize FruitMenu Redux…” no longer duplicates the item at the bottom of the menu.
- Added the ability to resize the Settings window vertically.
- Now shows confirmation dialog when resetting the menu.
- Fixed issue with Dock options not properly asking for automation permission and instead incorrectly telling the user FruitMenu Redux needs automation permission (can’t do that without actually doing the thing first!).
- Force Quit…, Screen Lock, Restart…, Shut Down…, and Log Out… no longer require the automation permission.
- Other UI polishings.
Version 1.0.5 (September 25th, 2026)
- Critical Fix: Fixed drag and drop not working to the menu editor or between the menu editor on macOS 26.6.x. Turns out you have to declare a valid UTI for Core Transferable even for intra-app drags!
- Make it more explicit that Recent Items, Recent Applications, Recent Documents, and Recent Folders require Spotlight to work.
- The System Settings menu now shows the proper dynamic icon for the Battery/Energy, Siri, and [Touch ID &] Password panes.
Version 1.0.4 (September 23rd, 2026)
- Added “Show each application’s open windows” option that’ll show an app’s windows in a submenu when Running Applications has been added to the FruitMenu Redux menu. There’s special integration for BBEdit too!
- The overlay now properly draws when using multiple monitors and one monitor is filled with a space. Tested with a broken camera monitor. (#4)
Version 1.0.3 (September 21st, 2026)
- Make the Location menu more closely match the Apple menu
- Holding option down now shows “Force Quit <Frontmost application>”
- Holding option down now shows alternatives for Log Out, Restart, and Shutdown.
- Fixed inability to add things to a submenu (#2)
- Added ability to rename items.
- Added a “Lock Screen” item to the list of items you can add to the FMR menu.
Version 1.0.2 (September 20th, 2026)
- Critical Fix: Fixed a bug that caused runaway memory allocation if you hit any printable key (including the space bar) while a FruitMenu Redux menu was open.
- Added update counts to System Settings, Software Update, and Mac App Store items.
- Changed the Log Out menu items to include your full user name to match the real Apple menu’s behavior.
Version 1.0.1 (September 20th, 2026)
- “Paint the Apple menu in six colors” is now a standalone option. You can make FruitMenu Redux only recolor the Apple menu logo while leaving other features off. When the Apple menu is shown in six colors, double-click FruitMenu Redux in the Finder to get back to the Settings window.
- Added a background image to the disk image. The only way to see it is to download the disk image and mount it in the Finder.
Version 1.0 (September 17th, 2026)
